Check out the National [UK] Maritime Museum's Flickr set. There are some truly amazing shots in there. Such as... this one.

If you want to see some great photos from Thailand, check out the travel journal of our good friends Jim and Becca, who are currently in Bankok as I type this, and frequently posting more photos. Taipei was their first stop.

I don't know about you, but this makes me really want to go check Thailand out!

... Which will yet again, likely lead to no end of the ordeal. At least Russia has banned it. Have to keep trying. Not very eloquent, but it probably will not be read.

For a country that functions on so high a standard in so many ways, that you can still commit such horrific acts of barbarism is something that takes away, entirely, the merit of all the good things you do.

It's tragic enough that you murder these animals at all. That many are skinned alive makes you absolutely monstrous.

End it now.

Will Ferrell might not even be able to reproduce how great this guy is. Though I can kind of see Ron Burgundy lose his anchor job and go this route... (not even remotely work safe. Might not even be home safe depending on who you live with.)

I thought I cursed a lot. Child's play in comparison. This is the supreme king of cussin'. All hail.

And Happy Lunar New Year.

The year of our good friend, The Ox. Prosperity through hard work really does seem to be the theme of the year.

And on that note, for those of you who aren't on Facebook reading updates like the more obsessive compulsive among us, the first issue of the fifth Blue Monday series, Thieves Like Us, is on the shelves as of today. The finer comic shops will be carrying it. ; P

Today would have been her 80th birthday. Adopted by a nice family by the name of Borror with a ranch in Springville, CA, from an orphanage in Alameda in 1929, she grew up on a dairy farm. She learned to play cello and loved reading Science Fiction more than anything. She went to University of the Pacific and ended up eventually working for The Fresno Bee in the Ad Department. She had writing talent but sadly never took the plunge to become a novelist. She had wanted to write Sci Fi, but I think she doubted her ability, though I know she would have been great at it. She worked at The Bee for over 40 years. A lover of motorcycles, she could also paint- I remember very cool oils that were rather impressionistic, very moody. Sadly I have none of them... not much of anything barring some photographs, some decorative pins from her sorority and The Bee, and some love letters from boyfriends that I can't bring myself to read yet. Oh, and a trashy novel one of her writer boyfriends penned under a pseudonym, which evidently has her as a character in it. I... also haven't read that yet. It's titled "School of Courteseans." Which I think is pretty awesome.

She was a character all around. But she wouldn't stop smoking, goddamn it all.

Ah, the shape of things to come.

Cannot go without watching the 1960 version of The Time Machine on New Year's Day. Otherwise it doesn't feel like a new year is starting at all. O, if only I had my own Time Machine.

Two seater, of course.

With a sidecar for pets.

Saw this over the weekend, and it was amazing. Absolutely loved it. If you have a theater in town that's still playing it, by all means see it on the big screen.
